Jack Lalanne juicer reviews

Many of us know the Jack Lalanne juicer from the late night infomercials featuring the health and fitness icon that recently died at the age of 96.

The infomercial pitch that grabs your attention includes the:

  • lifetime warranty on the motor,
  • a 60 day money back guarantee,
  • and claims that "The Ultimate Juicing Machine" produces 30% more juice than any other juicer out there,

We investigate how some of those marketing claims measure up to owners feedback reports as reflected on online forums.

Jack LaLanne Power Juicer Models

There are 5 Power Juicer models available in the Jack Lalanne range. They are priced between $100 and $150.

All five models have the same 250-Watt motor.

Power Juicer Classic

This is the most basic model of all the Jack LaLanne Juicers. It has the all-white molded plastic housing and is priced between $90 and $100.

Power Juicer Express

This model also has the plastic housing, but it is available in colors besides white. Includes a non-drip spout. Same price range of $90 and $100.

Power Juicer Deluxe

Has the same plastic housing but with chrome plated finish on the base. Price range between $110 and $120.

Power Juicer Pro

Stainless steel housing, anti-drip spout and a stainless steel filter basket. Price range between $ 140 and $150.

Power Juicer Elite

This model is made from stainless steel and plastic construction and claims that it has the ability to make soymilk. Price range here is also between $140 and $150.

We are generally skeptical about claims made through infomercials without supporting evidence to support the claims made - so investigated these juicers in more detail.

Before we looked at user reviews on online forums our first areas of concern was:

The 60 – 90 Days Warranty on parts other than the motor is very short when compared to similar juicers.

Most other juicers carry at least 1 year warranty.

Even if you're entitled to a replacement part during the warranty period you are responsible for paying the shipping costs to and from the supplier (which will amount to $60).

The 250 Watts motor ouput is also below our required threshold that a juicer motor should have at least a xx watt and one third horsepower capability.

We know of a number of similarly priced machines that have stronger motor.

Like any other prospective buyer of electronic consumer goods we stared with the many online reviews by owners that is so freely available on the consumer review sites.

We noticed a worrying number of negative consumer reviews in these forums that highlighted certain limitations of Jack LaLanne juicers.

What do owners of Jack Lalanne juicers have to say?

The extent of these complaints started us to doubt the quality of these machines.

  • Several customers said that the juicer motor broke down in the first few months of being used
  • A number of owners complained that these Jack Lalanne juicers are not dishwasher safe. Some people even complaining that the plastic parts get bend out of shape after they had placed them in their dishwasher.
  • On the Deluxe model the chrome plated finish sometimes come apart when placed in the dishwasher.
  • Owners complain that the juice yield is disappointing. This is evident when a great deal of the pulp remains left in the receptacle after juicing.
  • People remark that these juicers do not juice hard vegetables like carrots and beets well. This confirms our concerns about the low power 250-Watt motor.
  • Some owners point out that the spout is too low. A larger glass will consequently not fit under the spout.
  • We noticed numerous complaints about the machine often stalling or getting clogged.
  • Owners also noted that carrots and oranges furthermore stain the models with the white finish.

Issues with the warrantee

The power juicer website state that the "The Power Juicers motor is warranted for the lifetime of the original purchaser, and all other parts and components are warranted for 60 days from the original date of purchase."

When a juicer provides a lifetime motor warranty we are immediately encouraged by the faith that the manufacturer shows in its product.

Most centrifugal juicer comes with a 1 to 3 year warranty. Even the top quality juicer models like the Omega juicers offer warranties of 5 years to 15 years.

This means a lifetime warrantee on the motor is impressive at first glance.

Is there a hidden pitfall somewhere?

Some further scrutiny however reveals the onus is on the customer to ship the juicer to them along with a check for $29.95 to cover return shipping costs.

The total shipping cost to and from the manufacturer would thus cost the owner $60.

That means that if you had purchased the Power juice classic model, this cost would represent 60% of the original purchase price.

If you had to return the Power Juice Pro model, the shipping cost would represent 30% of the original purchase price.

Our opinion - Hardly worth the cost and effort.

Final verdict - Is the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer a worthwhile consideration?

To give our final verdict about Jack Lalanne juicers we firstly want to differentiate between:

  • Jack the health and fitness icon and,
  • The juicers associated with his name.

Jack the health and fitness icon

The owners of the juicing benefits toolbox website are avid health and fitness fans and we are inspired by the health lessons we can learn from the life and work of Jack Lalanne.

Some experts claim that Jack created the entire idea of a health club, including the juice bar.

Jack understood the power of the media. If it were not for TV, we never would have known about Jack. Jack used access to the media to earn trust and to teach.

Jack lived the story by following his own regimen. In his words, “I can’t die, it would ruin my image.”
